Fuses keep failing 200 1992

I have a 1992 245 wagon automatic with AC. In the summer, the car seem to blow the number 5 fuse often which keeps the car from starting. My wife noticed a sulfur type smell in the car on a very hot day last week and noticed the #5 fuse, which we had replaced with a copper banded type fuse instead of aluminum, had a considerable amount of crud on it. She rotated the fuse in the socket and then it was OK. It only happens in the summer when the AC is on.

I would like to solve the problem ASAP, especially since my wife and son drive the car. Anyone have any idea what causes it and how to fix it?
