240 overdrive 200 1993

I read a great deal from this helpfull site about the frayed wiring and relays but I just want to add a symptom I haven't found to see if I'm on the right track. The fuse goes out every time it is replaced. It then defaults to 3rd gear. Does this flag a specific problem so I can tell the repair guy exactly what needs to be done. I'm trying to get this repaired out of state and need to instruct a mechanic so my daughter won't get ripped off. Thanks to any and all.
