B6304 cam and crank timing 900

I was replacing the timing belt on my 965 this afternoon and inadvertantly rotated the the crankshaft while removing the timing belt. I replaced the new timing belt and the car wouldn't start, but turned over quit well. Since having done that, I have progresively gotten myself into an ever deepening hole. I started by trying to align the crank top dead center by finding the highest point of piston number 1 with a philips head while the plugs were removed. I then aligned the etched camshaft marke with the notches in the plastic cam cover, replaced the belts and tried firing her up. Things sounded pretty bad. Started over, only now, I can only rotate the crank about 270 degrees before it halts seemingly impinged by metal. I have no idea what this may be, I fear the worse and hope I didn't bend valves, rods, lifters, etc. Does anyone know how to remedy this problem, allowing me to rotate the crankshaft inorder to bring to TDC using the marks on the pully and the plastic shield.
