Max approved power for a stock '71 144 chassis 140-160 1971

Recently there was a post (or perhaps I saw a personal web site?) that Volvo officially approves of up to 220 BHP in a Volvo 240. Here in New Zealand that kind of information is really important, because strict regulations require LVC (low volume certification) to go over whatever's approved by the manufacturer. Even fitting higher wattage headlight bulbs is illegal... So does anyone know what the maximum power that the 144 chassis was designed for? Not what someone has done or what is possible, but rather what Volvo approved of? Commonsense tells me it should be at least 175 HP to cater for the 164, but does anyone know for sure? Thanks.
