Fuel guage intermittently shows full emply with warning light. 900 1993

posted by  someone claiming to be volvo localized seizures on  Sun Jul 31 14:26 CST 2005 [RELATED]

I fill up the car and drive a few miles and the car is parked. Shows full tank as expected.
Next day I get in and notice the gas guage registers empty in tank , idiot light on, but it runs great and the fuel never left the tank.
Next day repeat process and guage is functioning flawlessly.
What troubleshooting checking order when trying to catch this culpret?
