R12 to R134a Conversion - '91 740 700 1991

I have a '91 740 stationwagon w/ 300K mileage. A/C for first time is low on R12, but still running. I've decided it's time to convert to R134A using the Volvo kit. I've studied Dave Urban's website, but I have a few important questions:

Dave's website only mentions draining the compressor if it's a new one. He mentions nothing about draining an existing compressor. Since I'm not replacing it, do I just leave the compressor alone? Will the evacuation pull the oil out, or does it just stay in there?
