ac electrical problem 900 1992

3 years ago I converted my system to 134a and it has worked flawlessly ever since. Recently, it has developed an intermittent problem where the a/c will not come on. When it comes on, it blows ice cold and the compressor cycles as usual, so I am not considering low refrigerant as the cause. I pulled off the sensor connection on the side of the drier and shorted it, with no effect. I tapped on the side of the console and rotated the duct selector and the a/c came on. This isn't conclusive, but points to something in the switch/control unit. Are there any known or common problems associated with the ac control in the dash?

Thanks...
