Could be that in welding the exhaust the part that goes up and over the rear axle got repositioned (or some other part of it got repositioned) and it is banging against the axle or the underside of the car. When I recently replaced my exhaust it took me a couple tries at fitting the parts together/repositioning things to eliminate a 'thump.'

I put the Skandix 'sport' exhaust on my 122 and like it a lot. Search the archives and you'll find several reports on it.
