Cooling fan runs after shut-down 900 1993

My 93 945 Turbo developed a cooling fan problem this week. The fan keeps running
after I shut the engine down. On Friday, the fan kept running long enough to kill the battery and require a jump start. This year 945 turbo has a big relay
hooked to an aluminum plate just in front of the battery. The relay appears to control the fan motor. When I disconnect the fan motor from the relay, the motor shuts down. Any list members have thoughts baout the cause of the problem and a fix?
