Anyone have experience with electric instead of engine driven fan? 140-160

I have a very nicely rebuilt original rad so I doubt I have a place to screw in a sensor. Seems to me on my van the sensor is half way up the rad on the side. This makes sense as it is the actual temp of the rad. Since I won't be able to have it there I guess the lower rad hose is a good spot as it will anticipate heat build up.
Does that sound about right?
The wiring will be simple as I already have a power buss at the front of the engine bay.
I am interested in the "on" temp I should have?
