I presently waiting for my "new" windshield to arrive. My new gasket and por-stuff arrived today, so I figured I'd get the old glass out and get the opening primed for the new glass and gasket.
Getting the old winshield out was *much* easier than I expected. I put a couple of pieces of long tape across the glass and after removing the inner trim and prying off the chrome, I took and extendable snap-blade and cut all the way around the gasket - holding the blade parallel to the glass. This came off easily. I then followed by cutting through the gasket next to the glass and holding the blade perpendicular. This freed the glass up completely and I was able to lift it out unharmed. Too bad it had two longitudial cracks an several gravel "dings."
I curious if this was too easy? I know PhilS was able to free up one, but prior to that I was buying a use one from a junkyard in Tennesse. Despite the VClassics instuctions that I sent them, they managed to break it in several places. I can;t imagine how they coudl have done it. This was quite easy. I guess I should have suspected trouble when they asked me for advice on how to remove it...
Anyway, if anyone recalls the "front-end leaks" that I was posting about before, I found the answer. The lower edge of the window frame is badly corroded. Pictures to follow.
