Speedo/Odo/Cruise Failure 700 1991

I've been experiencing a recurring failure of the speedometer/odometer and cruise control function in my '91 744T. I first noticed a fluctuating speedo, with the needle going up as high as 90 mph when I'm in stop and go traffic. This happened probably a dozen times over the past six months. For the past 1,000 miles or so, after the vehicle has been started and driven about five miles, the speedo needle will stick at 90 mph, the odometer stops functioning, and the cruise control quits at the same time. Am I looking at something under the dash, or is the sensor in the differential bad? The connector to the differential sensor appears good, with no frayed wires or corrosion on the contacts.
