Groveling to dealer for radio security codes.... 200 1991

I have had to replace just about every TD-6141 and CR-712 that originally came with our EIGHT 244s (three have been relegated to the role of parts car after being involved in accidents with our two oldest sons). Normally I use CR-718s from eBay as a replacements. These rarely come with the code. Our "local dealer" is very reticent about giving out radio codes, even if I drive my Volvo into show them the old radio and new radio. Their standard response is, "we aren't supposed to do this, you need to get the code from the original owner." This despite the fact that I occasionally buy overpriced parts from the parts department. On two occasions, after begging and pleading they relented and looked up the code.

Volvo owners should not have to grovel to get something as innocent as a radio code. There is not a fencing market for 15 y/o radio cassette players. I feel that like their larcenous parts prices, this unwillingness to supply codes for replacement radios is a way some dealerships "encourage" the owner of an older Volvo to purchase a new car.

While surfing the net, I came across this web site:

http://au.geocities.com/ozbrick850/radio-codes.html

The author claims supplies a procedure and piece of software that can (supposedly) determine the codes for SC-705 and SC-905 radios in 940s.

Has anybody tried this software, and if so, does it work? Does anybody know of equivalent software for other Volvo radios?

Thanks.
