recurring rear end problems 900 1994

I have a 1994 Volvo 960 Wagon. B6304-S motor, 201 HP, A30/40 Transmission. 279,000 miles.

Rear end making a lot of noise when the accelerator is pressed. So I don't beleive it is an axle bearing problem.

When I got this carit had 200,000 miles and it's rearend was making a whining sound so I got it pretty cheap. Replaced it myself with a used rearend. 30K miles or so later. Same problem...the rearend whinned like crazy. Anyhow, bought another used rearend and installed that one. Now about 50K miles later it is doing the same thing.

I have done a lot of travelling (those 80K miles in about 1 1/2 years or less)
But this is getting ridiculous! so I am wondering is there something else that could be causing a problem? The car has 279,000 miles on it. The rest of the car is in very good shape. Everything works and it is fully loaded. So I don't really want to get rid of it.

The tranny shifts a bit quirky and has the whole time I have had the car.

Tranny fluid has been flushed and the screen changed. It didn't help any that I could tell. Tranny is the A30/40. (should the eloctronic control for the tranny need replaced?) Would a control module from a '92 960 be the same?

I replaced the left axle bearing just about a month ago. The left rear wheel was pretty bent and might have damaged the bearing. the bearing and the wheel caused a LOT of vibration for quite a while. Could it have contributed to the rearend going bad?
