93 945T 4th gear shift point changes after fast highway run 900 1993

my 93 945T automatic tansmission is funny about the 4th gear shift point. after a fast run or a hot day in stop & go traffic, 4th gear will engage at higher speed (50-55 mph) and fall out of 4th gear at the same shift speeds. also for the 3-4 sift to take place, i have to run up over 3500 rpm & back off the gas quickly for it to make te shift. Does it pay to fool with this tranny or should I look for a good used box?
Any input from the tranny guru's out there?
