My dad says live with it until it gets really bad, then it will be easier to find.

If the cluck is still present now you've changed the bushings, it must be something else (realy? realy!)
Bearings won't cause clunks, neither will (worn) splines on the axles, not with normal driving/shifting gears. The u-joint are worth checking.

About the play in the axle: what is the axial/side play on the halfshafts? : How far can you move the wheel to the sides. Like Phil mentioned, some is ok, but it should be bearly or not at all noticable. Also, are the drums thight on the halfshafts?
