After my trip this weekend in the Yellow Peril it seems that most of the
instruments are working. Have not done any calculations yet but the speedo
seems about right. It is a 1.03 speedo in a 145E - M40 transmission and
standard gearing. I think the car had a 0.99 speedo originally but I can't
get the one I have to work I'm using 195-75/15 tires so they are a bit big.
In places where I was driving with traffic at the speed limit I was just keeping
up. The odometer is working OK except the "miles" digit on the trip odometer
rests about halfway between numbers. I haven't checked it for accuracy.
The tach is marked "6 zylinder" on the back; in fact I have several from
a number of different dash panels and they are ALL marked the same. Not sure
why. It shows about 2750 rpm at 70mph but I wonder if it shouldn't be more
like 4000 or so? I could hook up my dwell meter and check it out but haven't
yet.
Questions:
Is the 1.03 speedo right for my car? Or is it compensating for the bigger
tires?
Is the Odo gear just a matter of taking it back apart and turning the wheel
one or 2 gear teeth? I had it apart to put the new gear into it.
Can the 6 cylinder tach be adjusted or recalibrated to be right with a B20?
