A/C leak on my Daughter's 1986 760T 700

Hi I gave my daughter my 86 760T wagon in March. When I owned the car, I had
to have the system recharged every three years(it was converted to R134A)
She took it to a midas shop in DC, and they told her they could not recharge the system because there was a leak in the evaporator. If this is the case
is it an expensive repair? I am aware on the 850's it is a major job.
Since the car is old, she does not want to sink a lot of money into it.
Any suggestionw are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Burt
