rear brakes not adjusting 120-130

'68 Amazon has the wacky self adjust mechanism, Wagner style.

Tried to adjust the brakes today, but running into problem. Stuck a screwdriver into backplate to tighten up the shoes so wheel would not turn, then backed off around 6 clicks. Adjusted the wheel on driver's side, all good.

Went over to passenger side, but cannot get the wheel to lock, no matter what. I turned adjuster as far as I possibly could, the wheel still turns.

I'm geting a drum puller tonight to see what's going on inside, but wondering if anybody ever ran into this type of problem before.

Never took a drum off myself, but seen other do it, hope I don't screw anything up! All the brake parts in rear are new by the way, and star adjuster was in real good shape, no stripped threads, nothing broken as far as I could tell.

Mechanic did mention that the shoes seemed to be 'slipping' a bit out of position for some reason, perhaps this is related to problem I'm having?
