Need to scan '97 960 for code 900 1997

Hi:
I recently had a check engine light that went away and I need to scan for the stored code; however, I feel that some of the hand-held Scan tools are short on features so I would greatly appreciate advice from those of you who have experience using OBD2 scan software and a laptop; I would like your recommendations and any down sides to products you have used; there appear to be at least three available on eBAY: ProScan, Tekmate Windows and Windows PC Auterra. which one to buy, that's the rub.
