Installing replacement engine, 2 unknown wires 700 1990

All 3 screws on the cap are tightened. I don't remember how many screws hold the metal distributor into the head. I think by rotating to the right 90 degrees, all plug wires would be 1 off. So if I just shift them all that should fix the problem... I did notice on my sister's '89 16 valve car that her cap was on like this, but I cannot see the locations of the spark plug wires under the metal cover.

Mainly what I'm worried about is what happens if the timing on the distributor is off. My engine won't start, but will it asplode?
