Clutch grind 200 1987

I have been having problems with my clutch. As I am coming to a stop, if I am moving even just a little bit, the clutch will grind when I put it in first. Some bricksters suggested that I "adjust the clutch". This was apparantly done by turning a nut, that will shorten the clutch cable. I think my 87 240 does not work that way. I cannot find a nut to turn. However I followed the cable back to the fork where it enters the transmission I guess. Here the cable ends, it is threaded through the fork and there is rubber blocks between the end of the cable and the metal fork. It seems to me that these rubber blocks might get compressed over time and that the metal fork itself might bend slightly, in effect lengthening the cable. I placed more rubber pieces in between the metal fork and the end of the cable, which I though might 'shorten' the cable. This didnt work.
There is still a grind as I enter first going less than five miles an hour.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? Am I on the right track? Am I completley missing the nut on the 87?
Any help is much appreciated.
