1989 240 won't start. 200 1989

I have a 1989 240 and it has run beautifully until yesterday. When I tried to leave work yesterday it wouldn't start. When I returned this morning it started, drove about a quarter mile and then stalled. I am not sure what the problem is but it seems that the fuel is not getting to the engine. It has a full gas tank. I am mechanically challenged, I just thought I would seek some advice. So far I have been told to replace the fuel filter and maybe check the fuel pump. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
