240-740 head interchange

Here's my guess -

The 740 version on the B230F has the distributor driven from the back end of the camshaft. The camshaft has a machined groove or something to slip into the distributor rotor, not so on the 240 version.

The 740 head must have a cut to allow the distributor shaft to reach the camshaft. I know the camshaft cover has a half-moon cut for that purpose, because a gasket set for a 240 B230F includes a seal for that cut.

The labor to remove the 740 head is going to be done anyway, so why not determine if that head can be re-furbished to be useful and not have to try to make the 240 head fit? Which, BTW, I don't see can be done.

Good Luck,

Bob
