Left my car at the airport for a few days while away on a trip. when I got back at 2.30am, the car would not start. The engine was turning over, but just would not run. After half hour trying (and with help from service vehicle providing extra juice to my battery), I went back home. Next afternoon, went back to try. Car started fine. Drove it back. On the highway, I just briefly lost power. rpm shot down to zero. instantly it came back up. reached home. Next day, I tried starting it to no avail. I tried for a week, no luck. Engine would turn over but cannot run. Changed fuel filter. Replaced my ignition cable with an old set that I had with me. Chnaged spark plugs. No help. Then I disconnected the fitting where the fuel injector rail connects to the incoming fuel line (just to see if fuel was getting there). there was fuel, it spilled a little. Tightened the fitting back. Started the car. Voila ! Car starts. Took it for a drive. shortly after accelerating, car loses power but comes back on. within a few more minutes this repeats. Then the car stalls. I start it. It starts fine but I have to rev it for a while. As soon as i put it on drive, it stalls. I did this a few times until I got it going again. This whole thing repeats about 4 times until I got back home. Shut teh car down. Restart and it ran fine. A few hours later, I try to start it and it just would not. Engine turns but would not fire up.
I think it is a fuel pressure problem. Fuel pump ? Someone told me even if the intank fuel pump was dead, the main fuel pump would do all the job fine. Initially I was wondering if it was intermittent electrical problems, like the injectors not getting a pulsed ground signal. Could not using the car for a few hours lower the fuel pressure in the system to a point where a bad pump/regulator cannot get it going?
Any thoughts? Do I change the fuel pressure regulator or the pump?
Thanks in advance.
