D-Jetronic problems 140-160

Ok, my sisters 72 144E is giving me fits. It has an intermittant problem that I can't seem to track down, and now i'm thinking its the ECU. With increasing frequency, it is cutting out, as if 1 or more cylinders is no longer functioning. and it also has a tendancy to want to die when you apply throttle. I have checked the distributor thuroughly, both the ignition points, and the FI points. All checks out. Every connection in the FI wiring harness appears to be good. I'm thinking it might be the cylinder head temp sensor, and a year ago the wires broke to it, and it was having similar problems, but if the sensor is bad, wouldn't it be doing this all the time? I'm left with thinking that its the ECU itself. Fortuneatly I have half a dozen sitting on the shelf. Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appericiated.
