Tune Up Costs 200 1992

Sunday my engine light came on. I've called a Dealership, and several Independants, I got two quotes both are around $650.00. Needless to say I'm a graduate student. I don't have a spare 650.00 and my mortgage is due on the first so what spare money I have is goobled up into that. Should I go ahead and go to the dealership, or try an independant or should I try something like a Pep Boys or Meinkee. I used both but only for breaks and exhaust.

I live in Washington, DC.
