Stalling due to AC? 200 1991

During one hour of stop-and-go backup in Florida with AC on, eventually, the car was stalling out at idle. Turned off the AC and all was normal. After we got through the backup, and were motoring along at highway speed, we turned back on the AC and all was fine. We used the AC for the rest of our 1000 mile trip from Hudson, FL to Chestertown, MD. (Daughter back to college)

What would have caused this? AC was converted last year to 134.

BTW, other than this inconvenience, the car(168,000 miles) ran flawlessly up RT. 95. But then you Bricksters would expect nothing less.
