Transmission Fluid Leak 200

All,

[Forgot to mention its a 1992 240 Wagon]

Just noticed the other day a few drops of fluid on the driveway. Didn't think it was a major deal, but just checked the level and the transmission fluid is not even measuring on the stick. Going to take it in to the mechanic tomorrow, but are there any guesses on what/how bad the damage is? The mechanic is only about 3 miles away. Is it safe to drive there or should I try to top it off before going there? Hadn't noticed any problems with the car, but pretty worried bout the potential expense. Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

Jeff
