To Bilstein or not to Bilstein, that is the question 700 1989

I have an 89' Turbo wagon with IPD swaybars, chassis braces, and Bilsteins. Your comment that you just want to smooth out pavement ripples should rule out Bilstein gas shocks. You must realize that the initial response of a gas shock (at least Bilsteins) is harsh (firm is being nice), only when the shock displacement goes further does it become hydralic. Consequencely you will feel every ripple with the Bilsteins, it is the speed bumps that are amazingly smooth (even though after the ripples you will needlessly grit your teeth for the speed bumps). If you want a sensitive shock that improves your handling go Bilstein - if you want to smooth out ripples and minor road imperfections don't go Bilstein. PS I have seen Bilsteins on eBay (Volvo 740 parts) for around $200 a set. Don't know the story or if the guy is reliable but the price is amazing.
