clicking in engine on acceleration 1800 1969

took the 69 1800 out last night and noticed a clicking sound coming from the engine on acceleration, this clicking would cease after letting off of the gas. I know just recently bought this car and so far it hasnt made such a noise in the two months of driving, the car does leak consistently, but i have monitored and kept the oil level at normal, until i can afford the shop bill to replace the gaskets. have i thrown out a rod bearing-is my engie ruined? is there some fluid level that I need to check? please give me your sage guidance. Thanks
