244 GL hazard lights problem 200 1984

Hi all,

My hazard lights refuse to turn on. All four blinkers work just fine, and the fog lights as well as head lights and brake lights are all working perfectly. When I hit the switch to turn the hazard lights on however, a funny grinding noise comes from the console area. Has anyone else ever had this problem before? Ideas?
