Updated Diesel BLOG 700

Well having set up a number of D24s both N/A and turboed, if you do not have the RIGHT tools, and the RIGHT specs (Chilton's is wrong) you will never get the job done correctly. If you do not complete ALL the steps in sequense, the result will be wrong.

I just happen to have ALL the D24 tools except the belt gauge, and I have spent more time fixing the screw-ups of others than doing it correctly the first time.

If the pump belt is as tight as you suggest, get it loosened NOW! If the pump belt is too tight you will DESTROY the input seal and bushing on the pump, and that's a $1500 repair bill.
