AW 30-40 Trans PNP switch

Chuck came up lame on the way home today. Thanks to the maintennance FAQ, code indicated a faulty gear position sensor. A vigorous rowing of the gear selector and a clearing of the code fixed all (for now). Can anyone tell me how long and at what speed can Chuck be expected to limp home before doing himself an injury, (overheated trans perhaps) and would it be a good idea to replace the switch soonest.

Thanks.
