Well, on vacation last October in Sturgeon Bay, WI, my 940 started crapping and farting around without much reason (except me having wound it out earlier the day before I arrived in Sturgeon Bay). Of course, when I pulled the vacuum line to the FPR, there was a nice stream of premium fuel going directly to the intake manifold. Amazingly, the Regina EFI system did a nice job of handling it. My economy was good despite the busted FPR.
"Hm", I thought, as I pored over the local phone book. I'm sure I could get F150 parts on the next block, but I'm NOT sure if I could get Volvo parts.
So I called NAPA. They usually make things happen in a jam, at least the ones I've used.
"Tomorrow morning", they said. "Come in and order it today". So I did, and paid some awful retail price for it, but less than dealer price.
The problem with going through NAPA or one of the big national chains is that they sometimes have conflicting or confusing part information on lesser-known brands like Volvo. I ended up buying a "similar" part that just happened to turn out to be the right one. But it worked, took 2 minutes to change out, and I went on my merry way all over the Door peninsula, enjoying every minute. My car thanked me and is happy to this day.
I have also relied on NAPA for relays, belts, hoses, and some filters when I couldn't get other stuff. Plus they used to deliver because I used a business address so they would shoot over with the stuff no questions asked. I even used them a few times to get marine plugs that I couldn't get for $9 each at the local "best price in town" boat dealer, and I paid maybe $6/plug at NAPA. Evinrude's final hurrah, the FICHT-injected engine... and that is for another time and another board.
