HELP! headlights quit working, inspection Monday!!! 200

As you know, Rover I is being put to rest, and R2 (Rover II) is my 1986 replacement. the other day, her headlights just quit! Luckily, it was barely dusk when it happened, but there's no way she'll pass inspection on monday with no headlights! Blinkers and parking lights work fine on their own, so does everything that runs off the same fuse as the headlights. BUT, when you turn the headlights on, the running lights & dash lights go out but the turn signals still work. I'm going to pull the switch off Rover I and see if that helps, but other than that, what could cause BOTH headlights to quit all of a sudden???
