Timing belt broke twice in a month and a half. Grrrr. 200 1986

I recently drove from Seattle to Northern Minnesota. Shortly after I arrived there my timing belt broke. No problem, it needed replacing soon anyways. Two days after I arrived back in Seattle it broke again. That is a problem. My question is: What could make a brand new timing belt break after only 1600 miles? Faulty non-Bosch belt? A bad gear? I need help before I find a steep cliff to push it off of! Thanks.
