Not an idiot, but the proud (or unfortunate) owner of the relatively obscure ZF 4spd. As I understand, it's what came in all the diesels and one or two years of NA gas 740s. Decent transmission, same as what came in many BMWs of the same era, just don't rev it in P or N or you'll blow it up.
