960 mystery discharge 900 1997

I just gained a '97 volvo 960 through marriage and we are having some mysterious issues. I can literally go buy a brand new battery and put it in the car and after just a few days it will be dead. This will happen even if the car is not started during this time. I have taken it to 3 mechanics and 2 of them had no clue what would be causeing this and the third suggested we TRY a new alternator. I have a hard time believing its the alternator because this happens if the car is just sitting. What could be draining these batteries? Any help would be appreciated.
