AC R12 to R134a question 200 1981

Hi folks. The AC on my 81 242 is not blowing cold air so I'm assuming it needs a recharge. I was wondering if it's better to just convert to R134a. If so, is it an easy DIY job? What parts do I need and dcan I get them from the usual parts houses? What should I expect to pay on parts? Is there a good website that explains how to do it?

Or am I better off taking it to a shop?

I'm in Texas, so AC is a necessity! Thanks for any help you can provide.
