The extra marks weren't on the pulley. They were the alignment marks 180 opposite of the timing cover, a little do-hickey mounted on the oil pan. I made my own marks on the pulley so I can shoot the timing from either top or from under the vehicle. This engine is in a Volvo military personnel carrier so it sits quite high off the ground and its easier to see the bottom mark.
