I agree with you on the exhaust sucking. My Wife hated my 145. No matter what I tried, it always sucked exhaust into the cabin.
Anyway, when I checked last (circa 1995) you could still buy a replacement caliper through a major autoparts chain. I got mine for $70.00 from autozone.
Cngrats on the improvement! I'm dealing with a similar issue on my 67 Volvo Amazon. Taking the excess slack out of the throttle linkage does help. Just be sure you leave enough to let it idle.
