There was a post a year or two ago on the 240 board about some "trusted" soul (I think a father in law) who was transporting a car with a known ATF leak a long distance. He kept stopping however many hundred miles he had been told to and adding a quart of ATF until the car quit moving. When the poster made the trip to retrieve it he found that the ATF had been added to the crankcase instead (5 or 6 quarts as I recall). The car had only stopped due to low ATF and when the fluids were corrected it drove without damage.
You are fine and have a good bonehead story now. Don't we all?
