It's been a while and you need to know that the Brickboard has saved my 164 from an early demise. She runs quite well with a new thermostat, 4 tires all of the same size (195/70), new fluids, new shocks, clean injectors, 2 newer cloth seats, and countless goodies.
The differential oil was changed last week because of noises. After 173K miles, it smelled really bad. It got a new gasket, just for kicks. I put in 85W-90 for a limited slip (got to wear my reading glasses), but now there is no more noise.
It still dies when putting it into reverse, but it is not the tranny. There is a wire somewhere up front which is getting pulled when the engine torques. She also dies when I turn hard to the right. But that is OK, it is easy to restart because of the inop park/neutral switch, besides if I am over 30mph it will restart itself when I straighten the wheel.
If this car were a wagon, I would sell my R. The ride is sooo comfortable and with real fenders in the front, I know how wide this car is. Parking is better too, the turning circle is about half of the R's. And so easy to work on.
The speed is very deceptive with the large hood. It is not a fast car, by any stretch of the imagination, but it will get to 70 before your brains expect it. Too bad the milage is a little on the guzzler side, but it is regular grade.
All of the electrics now work, so now I can listen to tunes when I go down the road.
I forgot, this car has saved me so much money:
Learned how to change my own brakes.
Learned how to put on shocks.
And as my daughter's primary car (for insurance purposes only, she really drives the 850T).
Now that the cooler weather is hear, I am appreciating the heated seat and the left foot vent is closed (wish my new cars had that).
I am having fun,
Klaus
