If it use the earlier pressure brake switch (the one on the brakes plumbering), easy, take both wires from that switch and joint it...with the ignition key on the "run" position (but engine off please), it will be light the brake lights (then, brake switch is culprit and need replacement - vw units fits). If lights remain off, then a wire o fuse (more probably a wire near to the left aft light assembly) is damaged or loosed.
