Hi all - first post here. I've used the search function and got lots of useful information before, but I wasn't yet successful for this question.
first of all: 1967 220 wagon with a B20+M41+D-type OD
I needed to get some work done on my rear axle recently so I decided to finally put in a lower ratio differential. It had a 4.56 and I replaced it with a 3.73. This is an awesome change by the way for anyone who doesn't have OD it really makes a difference on the freeway - all the sudden I can hear myself think going 85mph. Anyway, I've been searching for the right speedo gear.
The gear I took out of the OD is a 19 tooth black gear part number 380305. I've determined that if the 19 tooth was right before (??) then I now need a 15.5 tooth gear. Well I'll settle for either a 15 or 16, preferably 16 tooth.
I finally found a source for used speedo gears and dug through this guys pile of old gears and found a yellow 16 tooth. Doesn't fit. BOO-HOO!
So two questions: 1) anyone know where I can find the right gear and maybe a part number? 2) is there a formula for calculating what gear should be in there now (that isn't based on assuming a 19 tooth used to be right)?
