OK - I have determined that I have a bad in tank fuel pump on my 89 760. I also have a fuel gauge that is not working properly. It works sometimes when I first start out in the am - but even then does not register right. Then the guage will quit completely after about 20 minutes of driving.
The in tank pump is not that costly, and I know about the the sock needing replacing. I understand that the in tank gauge portion is really expensive on this model though.
Is there any advice one might give as far as direction to take next? I just need to get only the parts that I can afford right now.
Thanks
Andrew
WEIRD INFO: I have had to replace the distributor twice on this car (used parts) Both times the fuel guage mysteriously starting working - to a degree. This last time I cleaned and used dielectric grease on all the contacts - connectors in the area of the distributor - even the ground point at the firewall. I just wonder if this has any bearing on the guage problem?
