Check closely for air leaks in the intake ducting from the Air Mass Meter to the throttle body. Leakage there will give a lean mixture which could explain the poor throttle response and pinging. Check also for vacuum leaks in all the tubes/hoses, big and little.

If it idles fine the timing belt is aligned OK.
