Straight bolt on... no spacers needed 1800

When instead, they were just sitting 20mm-ish further out (which probably looks really good, the stock skinny 1800 wheels are always hiding shyly way back in the wheel wells).

Exactly! There's lots of room in these cars if you get the offset right. The lower offset gives you a wider track as well, and makes the car more stable, so going to the newer RWD stuff makes the car feel better.
