From what I understand.... (why is it long).... 200 1986

Actually, there should be two orifices, one with a long tube, and one without from the box, which is called an oil trap, and you want to separate crankcase vapors from the oil mist (through the other orifice) -- the oil mist should condense into a liquid that falls back through the hose into the oil at the bottom of the sump, which is why you want the long hose.
